Herbie: A Marxist Reading

Since it (or he?) was introduced in the 1968 film, The Love Bug, the world has come to adore the anthropomorphic Volkswagen Beetle, affectionately known as “Herbie.” Today, however, Herbie is nothing to be loved or cherished; no, Herbie is, of course, a symbol of the imminent technological singularity, in which technology will be more intelligent than any human could comprehend.
